Pilanesberg National Park

Did you know that it all started 2 000 million years ago when the area of Pilanesberg was an active volcano, called the Pilanesberg Alkaline Ring Complex?  Today it is one of the leading and popular wildlife destinations in a malaria-free area.  The main activity within the park are game viewing and drives to explore the interesting flora and fauna.  The world famous Big Five and other predators like cheetah, wild dog, brown hyena, black-backed jackal and caracal occurred now naturally.  Boubou B&B is only 40 minutes’ drive away and 2 hours’ drive from Johannesburg, Pretoria and O.R Tambo International Airport. You have both options to arrange an organized game drive or have the luxury of self-driving in your own private vehicle. Day trips to explore this beautiful 50 000ha Gem of the North West Province are highly recommended and it is always full of lovely surprises.

Madikwe Game Reserve

In South Africa’s North West Province with Botswana at its northern border, Madikwe is less than four hours’ drive from Johannesburg and Pretoria and an hour from Gaborone, a merely 2 hours’ drive from Boubou B&B, an ideal base and halfway stop over.
At 75 000ha in extent, Madikwe is the fourth largest South Africa, rugged and with an untouched beauty in a malaria-free area. The wildlife is extensive and impressive, offering the Magnificent Seven (the Big Five plus rare and endangered wild dog and cheetah). Madikwe has earned its place as one of the premier game viewing destinations in Southern Africa.

Marakele National Park

Another malaria-free National Park about 2 hour’s drive from Boubou B&B Lodge, is the Marakele National Park, with great views and awesome wildlife, situated in the heart of the Waterberg area. It is part of SANParks and a declared Biosphere of the Limpopo Province in South Africa. Visitors to Marakele National Park will explore 4 of the Big Five, rich birdlife and exceptional flora. It is a self-drive Park but organized game drives, walking trails can be arranged.

Kgaswane Mountain Reserve

Part of the North West Parks Board reserves, it the Kgaswane Mountain Reserve, 5 300ha where outdoor and hiking enthusiastic are spoilt with the most beautiful scenic hiking trails. It is close to Rustenburg and part of the Magaliesberg Biosphere. Boubou B&B lodge is 20 minutes’ drive away and ideal to spend a few hours of your leisure trip in the North West Province.

Sun City Resort

Sun City is just 40 minutes away from the Guest House, and it is a very popular destination for tourists from around the world. Not only does it have a world-class Casino and Golf courses, it also offers other entertainment options, like the Valley of Waves, the Palace of the Lost City, a sports bar and nightclub. If you want to come to the area and play a game of golf – not only does Sun City have one of the best golf courses in the world, there are more golf courses available in the Rustenburg area.

Tlholego Eco Village

Set on a 150 hectares in the North West Province, it is home to a rural community striving to live in balance with nature. Tlholego Eco Village’s Learning Centre transfers skills on land care and ownership, food security and earth-building technologies. Tlholego Eco Village is a mere 15 minutes’ drive away from the Lodge, Boubou Bed and Breakfast and offers walks, interesting traditional meals like potjie made from game meat or chicken, beef with 3 organic salads, mostly from their garden. A choice of our home brewed organic herbal teas cold and hot, herbal muffins are part of their interesting menus. Boubou B&B will organize visits on appointment.
